ICAR-IASRI
Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute
The Institute
ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (IASRI) started its journey as a Statistical Section in 1930 in the then Imperial Council of Agricultural Research, has grown in size and stature to a premier Institute to conduct research, education and training in the field of Statistical Sciences (Statistics, Computer Applications and Bioinformatics).
ICAR-IASRI has been mainly responsible for conducting research in Agricultural Statistics and Informatics to bridge the gaps in the existing knowledge. The Institute also conducts M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree courses in Agricultural Statistics, Computer Applications and Bioinformatics in collaboration with PG School (now The Graduate School) Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
The institute conducts Post Graduate teaching in Agricultural Statistics, Computer Application and Bioinformatics for human resource development. Institute is conducting M.Sc. in Bioinformatics since 2011-12 and Ph.D. in Bioinformatics since 2014-15.
The Division
Oriented towards teaching, training and advanced research in bioinformatics and computational biology with interdisciplinary collaborations.
The Division of Agricultural Bioinformatics, ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi, is oriented towards teaching, training and advanced research in bioinformatics and computational biology with interdisciplinary collaborations. It manages the supercomputing facilities: ASHOKA (https://iasri.res.in/ashoka.aspx), supporting development of databases, web-tools/servers and genomic resources.
The division offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in Bioinformatics in collaboration with The Graduate School, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi having the status of a Deemed University.
The Bioinformatics division is the youngest among the three disciplines at ICAR-IASRI and represents a relatively new prospect within ICAR-IARI. The foundation of this discipline began with the introduction of two bioinformatics courses in Agricultural Statistics.
